Climate Week NYC 2020
CAMPAIGN IDENTITY + AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT CAMPAIGN
COVID-19 put a halt to many an event in 2020, but climate action won’t wait – so it was time to innovate!
Continuing on our successes of the previous two years’ Climate Week NYC event branding and awareness campaigns, our designs this year for an immersive and interactive virtual conference helped bring New York City to homes, businesses, and world leaders all over the planet.
We built on the theme of ‘Building a Better Future’ as the world contends with some of the biggest challenges of a generation. The positive and striking identity and messaging was adapted for multiple applications to help achieve a record-level of engagement across the five boroughs of NYC and around the world.
In NYC locally, the campaign included TaxiTV videos, covering over 13,500 New York City taxi cabs; which saw 435,000 impressions, LinkNYC OOH media for a network of 1,777 advertising screens; which garnered 35 million impressions, and 50 bus stops in prime locations around the city – all providing the perfect backdrop for the critical activities throughout the week.
For the first time ever, the Opening Ceremony and Hub events went virtual. We created virtual environments capturing the essence of the live conference at the Javits Centre and famous NYC landmarks with interactive lobbies, conference suites and sponsor booths. Our Exhibition Hall provided a space for delegates to directly meet with an organization’s hosting booth, book meetings, download reports and other media, and even arrange face-to-face video calls. The platform was a huge success. It was broadcast to an exclusive audience of over 560 leaders in government, corporations, NGOs and media from 44 countries across the world. In addition, 52,098 people viewed the event on the Facebook Watch page, making it the most viewed Opening Ceremony in the event’s history.
Big announcements from Walmart’s CEO & President, Doug McMillon, resulted in widespread media coverage, including Forbes, Reuters, The Washington Post and The New York Times. A keynote speech from HRH Prince of Wales also prompted global attention from BBC News, CNBC, Sky News and The Hill, among others.

With a strong focus on digital events this year and contributions from over thirty countries, the program saw over 500 events take place. To aid in the promotion we created a toolkit of customisable social media cards that catered for many announcement types, including; event promos, ‘see you there’, speaker announcements and quote cards, allowing of bespoke imagery, messaging and logos.
To complement these we designed the new Climate Week NYC mobile app, providing access to the events program and Community Listings.
